OK, `ls /dev/hda*` probably returns nothing.  Is your drive picked up by
dmesg?  try `dmesg|grep` hda and see if it lists it...
 

# ls /dev/hda3
# ls /dev/hda
no such file
# dmesg| grep  hda

The clock on the Debian box is 02:01AM 11-Feb-2004 here (local time).  
It is correct corresponding to the clock on wall.

Could your locale be set wrong?
 

time zone = asia/hong_kong
