the Gentoo initscripts are #!/sbin/runscript. There is no ``man runscript'', no ``info runscript'' not much available on google. ... But sh is well documented.
those runscripts in init.d are bash scripts.
It's piped through runscript, so it can call the proper shell function, preload the functions, apply the dependency tree, etc...
