I'm using fbsplash currently and it's sweet. But how about getting a progress bar instead of having all the words scroll by? I'm working towards making a myth/freevo box and having the bootup covered by bootsplash would be nice.
splash=silent in your bootloader config (grub or lilo) usually takes care of this. You might also want to set SPLASH_VERBOSE_ON_ERRORS="no" in /etc/conf.d/splash.
