The Garmin foretrex 201, precisely because it *isn't* handheld.  It
straps onto your wrist.  As they say in hiking "never carry anything
in your hand".  I mostly use mine for bicycling:

Doesn't have maps or anything fancy.  For that I have my Nokia 770,
bluetooth GPS receiver, and Maemo-mapper.
