POTS is powered from the Central Office with a UPS that can maintains service for many hours in the event of a power failure. The physical location of the line's endpoint is known and registered for purposes of emergency response and 911 calls can be routed automatically to a local responder. VOIP and cell service do not yet match those POTS features. -- Lloyd Kvam Venix Corp DLSLUG/GNHLUG library http://www.librarything.com/catalog.php?view=dlslug _______________________________________________ gnhlug-discuss mailing list gnhlug-discuss@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-discuss/
