Variable page sizes is a fairly recent feature found in some commercial systems. Several commercial UNIX systems support multiple page sizes. The page size if a function of both the operating system as well as the hardware. Some systems (HP-UX for instance) also have features which may treat multiple adjacent pages as one page. Multiple page sizes are a double edged sword. People who don't know what they are doing may make changes causing their system to become sluggish.
Most of the top commercial UNIXs have or will have shortly an MPSS like feature.
