Dear Eddie, Let us be clear: I am no saint, and I have no 'halo'. Thank you for considering me an asset to the goanet but, if you put me on par with Floriano, I cannot consider it as a compliment. Floriano has posted half-truths and full lies on Goanet before. He has also downladed them , xeroxed them and distibuted and posted them on the walls in his native Moira. He has abused Goanet to give a 'halo' of authencity to his lies/tidbits...juicy though they were. I subscribed to goanet only to counter that. To that extent we can give him credit. I have taken up the issue with Goanet admin in the past... and I have seen his 'TidBits' migrate to other fora, which I have no intention of joining. One need not chase a barking dog all over the town: it is sufficient if you drive it off your path.
The issues raised by Floriano are not limited to the name 'Mhapsa Fest'. He has written about the 'noise' in residential areas...even before the event began! He met me on the first day of the fest but did not discuss these issues[ if they really 'concerned' him.]. He spoke to others about the 'spelling' and posted about the standardization. Let him try to do it now...after having done a Rip Van Winkle all these years. I have no axe to grind with him on the issue.Let him try to do it. We have Sinquerim, Querim, Kerim and Keri. We have Maina and Maini. Panaji, panjim,Pangim and Ponje. We have Velha Goa[P&T still uses it] and Old Goa. Ela and Ella; Arambol and Harmal; Santa Cruz and Calapur; Tiswadi and Ilhas; Shashti and Salcet and Salcette; Seraulim and Seravali; Madgao and Margao, Moira and Moidem; Aldona and Haldona; Assnora and Alsanwadi; Pirna and Pirni; Calangute and Kongute;Quepem and Kepem[ as in Kepechim Kirnam, which is a Konkani Mando group] and we have Konkani, Konkni and konknni[ as also konknne ani cristao, neither of whom are really Christians]. Go to a 'zagor' or visit a 'ghadi' and you will know what I mean. Or ask Dr.Bernadette Gomes, who has done her Ph.D. on the subject. Neither you nor Floriano nor I can learn these things by staring at the monitors after logging on to Goanet. It is all easier said than done. Let Floriano do anything but criticize others and I will have no issue with him. There is a limit to anyone's patience. When I need his advice, I will ask for it. When I can help, I will do without his asking. I got the venue of the reception specially spruced up for Farah Lobo's wedding. She is a nice girl and worked at a place where I maintain the gardens. She is also Floriano's daughter...and I knew it,too. Floriano has not been too kind to my sister,Fatima Antao [specially on Goanet, to which none of us were subscribed a year and half back in history]. He knows that ,too. Let him examine his conscience, if he has one. I have no axe to grind with you: you do not know what, and of whom, you are defending, when you write thus: From: "Eddie Fernandes" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Re: [Goanet]Goan place names - Panjim & Panaji Florian made a comment questioning the wisdom of the use of the term "Mhapsa". This appears to have touched a raw nerve in Miguel who launched into a most unfortunate personal attack on Florian. This does not create ideal conditions for debate within this or any other forum. Everyone has the right to initiate and participate in discussions. It is painful to see sides being taken with regard to this issue. As I wrote initially, "Miguel's halo has become a little tarnished" Both he and Florian have been assets to this forum and deserve our attention and our gratitude. Let us avoid personalising the issues and dividing GoaNet into camps. Cheers, Eddie Fernandes From: "Cecil Pinto" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, February 19, 2004 8:25 AM Subject: [Goanet]Goan place names - Panjim & Panaji You will notice how "Panaji" and "Panjim" have been both used in an 'official' Government advertisement. A city by any name, without a proper sewerage system, still smells the same. Cecil Feira Alta, Mapuca-Goa, now has a functional children's park, clean roads, painted compound walls and an energized, empowered group of residents. Other wards want to do likewise, other villages want to do likewise. We have copied and modified what 'Together for Panjim' does. We have slogged for 'Together for Panjim' events during the last two years to learn how to do it. We have avoided some of the shortcomings of the Panjim model. We have not changed the world, we have accelerated the process in a small area. We do not need power brakes: it is a small work engine that is just getting into motion on an uphill task. If Floriano wants to help, he can give us Rs.18,000/-. That is our current deficit. His advice he can keep for himself. We have CCP Commissioner, Sanjit Rodrigues, to give us advice. We need someone to give us money ! Viva Goa. Viva Mhapsa Fest. Viva Mapuca. Miguel --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
