Not much help this to you, but to be honest I've given up using Maps on IE6.
No pages on any site with an API map load, nore does maps.google.com all getting multiple JavaScript errors. This is on any PC here that's still got IE6, they all work fine with IE7 or Firefox. We've just accepted that no Google maps will work with IE6.
