Gail omvedt's work is also mentioning the same points. what is the relation between an upper caste worker and dalit worker in these textile manufacturing units?they are uniting only on certain economic interests. Asok rudra has described this phenomenon as a particular group action in a similar context.

To: Venugopalan K M <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Dear Venu, Yes, the people who have betrayed the most have been the left. The left in India could have contributed in many ways, practically in fighting caste, theoretically in contributing to an understanding of caste from a Marxist perspective. But they did nothing, mainly because the left has always been dominated by 'upper' castes. As Limbale says in his book 'Towards an aesthetic of Dalit literature' when talking about the left's role in organising mill workers, all the interaction happened within the mill compound. When they stepped outside, the caste workers went to their homes and the Dalits to theirs. There was no interaction, socially or culturally. Shiva. Apparently, this is typical and the fore-runner of the later course "Marxism" undoubtedly was to take in a country where the hegemony of caste is never challenged.
