PODCASTING THE SYDNEY TAYLOR BOOK AWARD WINNERS

"The Book of Life: A Show About Jewish People and the Books We Read"
has posted its second episode online. The podcast includes
interviews with the 2006 winners of the Sydney Taylor Book Award for
Jewish children's literature, which were recently announced by the
Association of Jewish Libraries. Sarah Darer Littman, author of
Confessions of a Closet Catholic, speaks about her oddly-named Jewish
novel, which is the award winner in the Older Readers
Category. Erica Silverman and Mordicai Gerstein, author and
illustrator of Sholom's Treasure: How Sholom Aleichem Became a Writer
discuss the challenges or creating their picture book biography,
which is the award winner in the Younger Readers Category.

The show also features an interview with Andy Rubin, founder of the
Freilachmakers Klezmer String Band, and thoughts on the importance of
reading from prominent Jewish educator Dorothy Herman.

The podcast is produced by Heidi Estrin, synagogue librarian at
Congregation B'nai Israel in Boca Raton, Florida, who is also the
outgoing Chair of the Sydney Taylor Book Award committee. The
monthly show features author interviews, reviews of books, music, and
film, and comments from real Jewish readers about how reading has
affected their lives.

The podcast may be heard at www.jewishbooks.blogspot.com, and may
also be subscribed to via iTunes.
