Please post the following. Let me know if you have any questions. I hope all New York Metro librarians will be generous enough to get this word out.
On May 3rd, starting at 10 AM, the Dorot Jewish Division of the New York Public Library will host an exciting and fascinating program, "Jewish Geography in America: Who Went Where When and Why." The keynote address will be by Dr Jonathan Sarna, the Joseph H. and Belle R. Braun Professor of American Jewish History at Brandeis University, and Chief Historian of the National Museum of Jewish History and Chair, Academic Advisory & Editorial Board, American Jewish Archives. Following up on this address will be a presentation by Matthew Knutzen, Geospatial Librarian of the Library. Then, since "geography" inevitably slides into "genealogy" (for example, "how did my wife's grandparents get to Detroit, and why?"), there will be hands-on classroom opportunities with librarians and specialists from the Library. The program will run from 10 AM-3:30 PM on May 3rd, in the historic Stephen A. Schwarzman Building on 5th Avenue and 42d Street. Registration is required; contact annmariestar...@nypl.org, 212-930-0605, for the day or any part thereof. This is a public program of the Dorot Jewish Division of the New York Public Library, generously funded by the Dorot Foundation. -- -- Stephen D.
