This sounds like a similar problem we had in Microbiology decades ago when we had to stop using open flame for sterilizing our wire inoculating loops when streaking Petri plates. Most micro labs now use electric sterilizers which consists of a tightly wound heating coil that the wire loop is placed in. I am not familiar with the amount of paraffin carry-over or the hazards/company warranty issues in using this type of equipment for this purpose, but it might be worth an investigation.
