I am still struggling when I have a spare minute to get our "inherited" JB-4 Sorvall manual microtome to work for paraffin sectioning. Now the micron knob moves freely and I can't get it to stay set on the thickness. If I get it on say 5 microns as you are cutting it drifts so you never know what thickness you are going to get. Should I just scrap this old machine or does anyone know how I need to adjust something ? As you probably can tell I am not mechanically inclined.
