Between groups of programers there has to be an agreed upon API or
interface, even if these programers work for different outfits.
This interface needs to be documented to.

Didn't Microsoft get busted for undocumented API's that programers had to
rely on?
Then they changed them to thwart the competition?

Of course Valve and Mod makers arent in competition. It's in everyones best
interest to work as a team.
Mod makers have certainly brought Valve alot of sales.

Leaving old API's in while adding new ones doesn't break old code.
