I've experienced this issue as well (although I didn't know the
suspend/resume trick). The way I've resolved it, from what I've seen on
the 'net is to comment out the following in
drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_dp.c at line ~3817:
// bpp = dev_priv->vbt.edp_bpp;
I'm not sure what that does, but works for me. Somone else might have a
nicer solution.
