I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but I thought that this might be the best place to get useful information. If this is not the right place for this, I apologize.
Last July we purchased a z/890 to take advantage of cost savings. My manager thought we might be able to use a Linux IFL and run a particular piece of software. As a result of this, in addition to supporting z/OS, I have become the z/VM support person. I have attended an IBM class on installing z/VM and Linux. I am still trying to get a handle on using this operating system. Currently, we are not using the VM system or the Linux instance that we created. As a result of the z/890 purchase, we received, for one year, the free use of CA's VM:Manager VM Management Suite. Since we weren't utilizing the z/VM system and because of other priorities on the z/OS side, the software never got installed. Now maintenance is coming due and my manager wants to know if we should keep it or keep certain components of the suite. Is anyone using CA's VM:Manager VM Management Suite or any of its components? Would someone, please, give me some feed back on this product? As far as I can tell, it includes the following components: BrightStore VM:Backup BrightStore VM:Backup HiDro BrightStore VM:Tape Unicenter VM:Account Unicenter VM:Schedule Unicenter VM:Sort Unicenter CA-Explore Performance Management for VM Unicenter VM:Operator for VM Unicenter VM:Spool Unicenter VM:Spool V/Seg Plus Feature eTrust: Director eTrust: Top Secret Security of VM CA CIS for VM I do know that CA's Director is their version of IBM's Directory Maintenance (DirMaint). Thanks in advance for your input. Best Regards, Duane Shields Delta Dental Plan of Michigan Systems Administrator Phone: (517) 347-5843 Fax: (517) 347-5366 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
