One idea would be to create a tool similar to SWAPGEN that clips cyl 0 of a minidisk from CMS to provide a label that Linux can recognize, incorporate that into the DIRMAINT format minidisk exit (insert your product equivalent here), and thus stop the whining at boot. You could then partition, dasdfmt, and mkfs as normal, but still avoid the messages about unrecognized disk.
