Some of the stuff you mentioned is actually saved on the SE (Support Element) PC. The hardware definition (lpar profiles) is stored on the SE. The only OSA definitions that I know of that would need backing up is for the OSA-ICC cards. There is an export function to copy OSA-ICC definition information. There is a function on the HMC to backup any custom groups you created on the HMC.

Or am I worrying needlessly? If the hmc were to melt down would not one of the laptops attached to the cpu itself also have the same info?
