Does your VM:Account software a good level to support the z/VM level? Usualy, DIRMAINT 123 and MAINT 123 point to the same physical disk. The VM Resident is not CMS formatted indeed, it contains other stuff than only CMS files. When the disk is formattted (using ICKDSF CPVOL), ICKDSF will write some OS compatible stuff in the first cylinder, that's why ACCESS tells you "OS" as format.
