This is why you never want to use the guest virtual machine’s console, you
might accidentally log it off. Use CP SEND to tell the guest what to do and
avoid actually “logging on” to your running guest’s virtual machine console. J

Hello,

I could relate to TeaMin story. I was new to VM back then. We had os390 under
VM/ESA. I was requested to add some 3390s on the fly rush. So when I finished I
decided to do a print screen to documented what I had done. When I hitted print
screen the 3270 emulator crashed. Something happenned internally in my pc that
caused the emulator to send a logoff instead of a disconnect to the guest
machine killing the OS/390. More than 3,000 terminal went off at that moment.

We reported the problem to the vendor of course. From that moment on: no more
print screen for me. I'm telling you: that was not funny. I never tried to
reproduce the problem to see if it was fixed. We changed the emulator.

Murphy really works overtime.

TaeMin,

Could you share with us what you learned from your experience? What really
happened to your Z/OS guest system?

How long was it between the time that your logon session to that z/OS guest
main console was lost,
and the time that the z/OS guest system was logged off or FORCED BY SYSTEM (or
by something else)?
What were the actual messages on the OPERATOR console logs from those events?

This listserve has a 'search' feature. See:
http://listserv.uark.edu/archives/ibmvm.html
If you share what happened, perhaps someone else can avoid the same problem.

Thanks!

How to define shareabel full-pack minidisk in user directory

Dears,

I use z/VM v6.1 and z10 BC. OS/390 V2.10 is running uder z/VM.
I logged on z/VM userid to see OS/390 Master Console in IBM personal
communication and suddenly my laptop was dead.
Unfortunately, OS/390 was crashed and forced by z/VM system at the same time.
I think that even though my laptop is dead and session is suddenly closed, it
must be still running and can be reconnected by "LOGON USERID HERE"

i don't understand why this happened.
Is there anybody who has this experience like me and has the way how to protect
it not to happen again?
or how to detect root cause of it?

Regards
