If you were losing the clock, I would replace the batteries as a first
step in any troubleshooting.

If you have opened any computer, you can open the iMac. Nothing weird inside.
The plastics around the CRT stay put.
After removing screws, the bottom pops out, though you may think
otherwise when you try.

I hope others will come up with a good guide link, but it really isnt that bad.
