cleaned disc and drive; same problem; to check the cd drive I put in a normal cd (with photos) and it was fine (appeared on the desktop, opened when disc icon was clicked).
tried to choose restore disk as startup disk in system preferences, but after inserting the CD it does not show up as an option and eventually ejects, again, on its own. ????
