One of your posters is correct - not everyone wants wireless. My mom
has psoriasis so bad she could barely use her hands and feet, so I got
her one of the last IMac's with the Motorola chip, and I bought one
myself. For hers, I set up a wireless keyboard and mouse - because
where her computer was I could see her tripping over a cord, and she
is frail. For my computer in my condo, I use a Herman Miller Scooter
Stand for my keyboard (which I luckily bought cheap because it was a
demo) - this is like a piano music stand in a way, and always sits
some distance from my computer. For me, wireless is not really wanted
- I can move my keyboard far away from my computer, and the cord is
not a hassle.
For her, it was worth originally configuring and setting up the
wireless keyboard and mouse, and occasionally replacing the batteries
- for the convenience of not having to worry about her tripping over a
cord. I did find out that your batteries will last a long time IF you
turn the keyboard OFF when you are not using it.
For me, using the regular IMac keyboard is better than paying more for
the wireless one, and having to replace batteries.
I also tried setting up my mom's computer to use a wireless
internet connection - I bought the Airport stations, but could not get
it work at her mobile home, and Cox Cable was useless, just
immediately saying the unit was defective. It wasn't defective, it
worked again fine in the Apple Store. I did the easier thing, I got
dirty, got under her mobile home and ran a cable from the computer to
the connection, and gave up on wireless internet. Probably the smarter
choice.

For some things, wireless is worth it - for some things, it isn't.
