I use the free version of Avast! on my Mac (Mountain Lion) and get all sorts of notifications from viruses in emails, though I'm pretty sure that they are mostly for Windows. Even if you're not susceptible to many viruses, I think it's worth being a good cyber-neighbor to make sure that you're not being a carrier and passing along infected files to your Windows friends.
