You can get Thunderbird from:
http://www.mozillamessaging.com
Thunderbird will automatically configure the account settings for you.
You only need to enter your username (full gmail address including
@gmail.com)
Enter your gmail passwordand hit next.
Thunderbird will automatically configure your account to use IMAP.
If you want to use POP with your account you'll have to select that
manually.
Make sure you enable POP or IMAP from within gmail before attempting the
steps above.
POP or IMAP is not enabled by default for your account.
More about how to configure POP/IMAP can be found by clicking Help when
logged into gmail.
