Yes, the script runs on the master, but that's the way it's meant to be by design.
One think that you could do is to expand your groovy script to connect to each node and discover devices.
Another options would be to be inspired by Kohsuke's plugin (https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/iOS+Device+Connector+Plugin) and adapt it to whatever device you are planning to test.
