Daniel Beck: as I wrote a few comments ago I too see this as a workaround as the plugin upgrade broke the behaviour (it was working without additional credentials before 2.2) - but I can live with the workaround and I also can follow your explanation (check out vs. change detection)
Maybe you could rephrase your entry in the bug description anyway to make it clearer as your bugfixes do not match the description of the bug entry and thus the bug is not fixed but the behaviour still intended.
Maybe something like
"Since version 2.2 you have to add additional credits to your jobs with externals. You need to reconfigure them as described in the comments below. This behaviour is intended and not a bug."
would be clearer.
