Description:

For the last while, the Jenkins instance at builds.apache.org has been hanging every couple days (or more frequently). We've had problems with hanging slaves, which typically seem to be somehow connected with Maven jobs (https://gist.github.com/abayer/cc951f6b7f5f670232ab for the threaddump there, ubuntu6 was hanging at that point, if I remember correctly - threaddump from a hung slave at https://gist.github.com/abayer/d7c3e87f5c0ae90927c9) but the really nasty issue is the UI hanging.

Jobs still seem to be running (I think - not 100% sure on that front), but the UI locks up and we get 502s from httpd in front of Tomcat. I've attached the stack dumps for two of these hangs. If there's anything else you need from us at Apache, let me know and I can arrange it - this is a fairly critical problem for us. My gut instinct is that it's something to do with the slave lockup, which itself seems to be something to do with Maven jobs (of which we have over 600 with an average of nearly 40 modules per job, so...yeah, lots and lots of MavenModules floating around, which may be, in tandem with JENKINS-19392, the reason we have 20 minute startup times), but I could very well be wrong about all of it.

Environment: 1.564-SNAPSHOT, Tomcat 7, Ubuntu 12.04.4
Project: Jenkins
Priority: Critical Critical
