It's very counter-productive to speak about actual buy prices, as those vary greatly. Take it with grain of salt. I'm sure people are paying under 15k and over 30k for 7280. Scale on PTX1k is much wider, and I know lot of people who have not even included JNPR in short-list due to the price being so far off from competition.
Purely subjective opinion, but I think PTX1k is best hardware and best software of the three right now. But I also feel JNPR is over-estimating how much TTM lead they have and they have no product for the dense 100G segment, so they are very vulnerable and they are doing great disservice to themselves by not embedding PTX1k more aggressively to customer networks. In fact looking at JNPR market cap, I'm worried of long term survivability of JNPR right now. And I'd be interested to see very radical change, split JNPR to three shops, HW, SW and white-label integrator. Day1 white-label would sell Trio/PE + JunOS, but if they want to do something else in future, that would be up to their CEO. The SW and HW are competitive, but the volumes of Trio/PE they are pushing out seem like insufficient to justify the work for producing the chips. Which may explain the over-market asking of PTX1k. So I am worried if current strategy of investing on own IP is advantageous to customers. Looking at list prices, it seems like it may be a liability. (Again this comes from someone who believes the software and the hardware is better than competition).
