Oh, that indeed works. The widget is strange because it contains the same two lock/logout buttons as the application launcher, but the widget logout button does show the confirmation screen (the one on the application launcher does not). The control+alt+del shortcut also works, I don't know how I missed that one. I'll be using that from now on (until discover provides it directly).
