From the actual UI control the call chain ultimately goes deep into Qt (qcommonstyle I think?) and from there into the QPlatformTheme (i.e. plasma-integration for plasma sessions; but as I say that has no impact on SDDM most likely). Chances are there is a way to influence the character from QML though.
