OK, let me rephrase that. :)

If a machine was turned off for a longer time, there wouldn't be much to cleanup upon boot, so in this case running the hammer cleanup via rc.d wouldn't make much sense IMO.

There is, however, the scenario of the user who works with his box during the day but regularly turns it off at night (what an apalling thought :). In this case it _would_ make sense to run it upon booting (rc.d/newsyslog exists for the same reason I guess).

So it could make sense to add a rc.d script, I'm just not sure if it should be on by default.
