Hi Ala’a

The annotation schema is TIPSTER-compliant and resembles the
GATE annotation schema (HYPERLINK "http://gate.ac.uk"http://gate.ac.uk).
Basically you can express any metadata about the annotation. The standard
features are offset, type, id, and a feature map. The feature map is freely
extensible as it presents a map of key/value pairs.

We present some of the attributes of the relation in it, but we also point
to a class in an ontology (via URI) and an instance (URI again). The
definition of the class carries additional formal definition which can be
used when interpreting the annotation. The instance URI links to the
description of the entity in a semantic repository.

In the main use cases we usually annotate entities (e.g. Named Entities) and
the semantics of the
annotation-through-URI-to-Semantic-Description-of-an-entity is that the what
we annotate is a mere reference to an entity which exists (or is about to be
added) in our semantic repository in which we have a model of the domain
defined through an ontology.

Regarding scenarios: what do you mean? We apply KIM in the news and
multimedia analysis, digital libraries, search, life science domains,
recruitment intelligence and other KM and BI tasks.

All the best with your research

Subject: [KIM-discussion] Post Schema

Dear All,

I am a new PhD researcher and I am in the beging stage. Specifically with
the annotation schema I need to know what kind of annotations you use in
KIM (Post Schema) and what format you take. Some system like Annotea schema
defines the following properties for an annotation: annotates, author, body,
context, created, modified, related, Did KIM defines same?. Can KIM schema
be further extended to suit?

Could you please provide me the scenarios which illustrate KIM system and
what kinds of annotations would result from that usage. I could not found a
clear scenarios in the papers related to KIM.

Your Cooperation is heighly appreciated

Ala'a
