I am new to legacy but I have for sometime used the technique of entering an unknown female spouse as"LNAME". In other words, I place quotation marks around the known last name of the husband. If I later learn the correct maiden name I just replace it. For males where I do not know a first name I generally leave it blank and then later correct it when i get the information. Hope this may help others.
