Thanks Cathy
Also, the “other” Help (the one in .CHM file) is different, and complements the .PDF one well. I followed up your quick guidance and found helpful info there. “Legacy Unlocked” – a paper publication from Millennia? I may subscribe to webinars sometime – perhaps when I’m over a severe dose of common cold that’s slowing my thought processes! There is an option in Options - Customise 2.8 where you can choose to set the custom of wives taking their husband's surname to be the default. This setting can be overridden in the Marriage Information so you set it for what is normal for you. 4) In reports you can include AKAs in the body of the report - choose in the Report options on the Include tab. 5) Le gacy is developed in the US but it's not as US-centric as you seem to think. 6) the Legacy User Manual isn't designed to answer every data input question but to give you an overview of the program and how to use the main features. It is a subset of the inbuilt Help accessed from every screen either with a Help button or F1 key. Geoff Rasmussen's Legacy Unlocked is more about how to add particular types of data. It's based on his Watch Geoff Live webinars. I suggest you get a webinar subscription and watch relevant webinars - or just watch the free ones. You will find that there are more US based webinars than for other parts of the world but there are webinars on research in all sorts of places. Besides some of the US ones are equally valid wherever you are searching - the techniques are the same - eg the ones on Breaking down brick walls by Marian Pierre-Louis. I'm a much better researcher for watching them despite the fact her examples are US based and I ve ry rarely do any US research - only 1% of my database lived at some time in the USA. Cathy Ian Thomas wrote: I realise Legacy FT is a USA-centric programme, and I’m not clued up with usual terminology in genealogy programmes whatever their bias. Can someone please explain how Legacy handles / describes situations where people have changed names, either by a Lastname used in practice / everyday usage, or by legally changing their name (by what is known in Australia / UK as Deed Poll)? I haven’t found a search term that gives me explaantations within the very large PDF user manual for Legacy v8.0 Deluxe. Ian Thomas Albert Park, Victoria 3206 Australia
