Hi list.
Regarding snooper for Linux.
What I think would be very useful would be if the usb-developers could
allocate a new libpcap frame type for USB packets.
And then provide an API in the usb subsystem so that libpcap could sniff
data
in the same way as libpcap today can sniff packets from various types of
NICs and WANlinks.
Then, if the kernel and libpcap can provide packets to the application
layer, I can assist in developing
the protocol dissectors for the ethereal tool.
Something like ehtereal to sniff and dissect protocol data for USB would, I
guess, be very useful
for USB driver developers?
If you can get the data through libpcap in teh same way as for a NIC, then I
can provide the
ethereal dissector for you.
(ethereal already contain a SCSI dissector used by various network protocols
encapsulating
standard SCSI-CDB. Many USB storage devices are SCSI? half the job is
already done.)
I can not help in developing the nessecary usb-subsystem/kernel patches nor
can i help much with
libpcap, but I write the entire ethereal dissector for you.
Anyone interested? I think it would be a very useful tool for developers.
ethereal, www.ethereal.com, is a free GPL packet analyzer which is quite
powerful.
(We use a .com address since .org was already taken :-( )
