Very nice bug report - this is indeed the right place to post it. If possible, switch to a text VT, or log wherever you have the kernel set to dump messages, then find the Oops message and the panic. Then, please run ksymoops on the Oops message. Also, (I know this isn't what you want to hear) it would be very helpful if you could see if you could reproduce this in kernel 2.6, or at least in the most recent 2.4. Also, is the HP 315 a webcam? A digital camera? What does it behave as in Windows? (Have you tested it in Windows?)
