I bought a Asus WL500g network router the other day which is
Linuxbased, so I would like to play with it.

Apparently it supports having a USB-disk/key connected to use as a
file system, and I got the idea that I might be able to use the
host-port provided by the motherboard in my computer instead.

The motherboard is a MSI 6321 and the port is reported with

T: Bus=02 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=01 Cnt=02 Dev#= 3 Spd=12 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 1.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=05e3 ProdID=0502 Rev= 1.80
S: Product=USB Host To Host Bridge
C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr= 8mA
I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=usbnet
E: Ad=81(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
E: Ad=02(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
E: Ad=83(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 8 Ivl=16ms

Apparently the only lines relevant to this in dmesg are

usb0: register usbnet at usb-0000:00:07.3-2, Genesys GeneLink
usbcore: registered new driver usbnet

I tried searching this mailing list for genelink and genesys but
apparently I do not know enough yet to spot the information I need.

Is there somebody who knows what exactly this device is (for further
studying) and whether I may be able to trick it to act as a mass
storage device instead and use the gadget stuff to serve files to my
router?

Thanks in advance - I would appreciate getting this to work.
