Btw for connecting a terminal to some serial device you want to be looking for something better than a must-run-as-root piece of historic junk that really is only designed for modems. I found cu in konsole to be less braindead than minicom. Works, but is unsatisfactory. Good for scripting interactions though! Try picocom or ssterm. My favourite is picocom. Still looking for these things to behave themselves on a command of "bugger off" to quit "now", not "sometime in the future". I really don't care what some modem needed in the distant past and I can't believe it takes more than a millisecond tops to close a serial port.
