You might be surprised! This Mac geek knows about his underlying BSD, and has tamed a Linux boxen or two in his lifetime too.
But I think now days I'd be more inclined to leverage a nice quiet, cheap, small and low-power Raspberry Pi 2 than an old Dell*.
