I should not mention X server in the discussion. I know we can change
the number of valuators in the driver. In fact, there was a "Feature
Requests" 
(http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1559638&group_id=69596&atid=525127
created by myself in 2006. One of the reason that we could not make
the change was the fake hotplugging "mechanism".

So, if the number of valuators is not an issue to the userland, now is
the time to consider the request (sorry to mark it as "outdated").
