Tom, Im wondering if you experiencing a problem that I had a while back, it used to hang for about 15 seconds while booting Gnome. It only seemed to occur under Metacity rather than XFCE.
Since migrating to KDE, which is a dream to install compared to Gnome when compiling from source, Ive never had a chance to investigate further. Ive not had a chance to look at the spliced version of KDE & Gnome on the latest version of Redhat, is it any good? I know there were a few ethical debates about merging the two.
