Joe,
You need to log into something, before running fluxbox. That way, the
system has a clue who you are.
So, a display manager is used for that (XDM,GDM,KDM). That gives you a
session on the server. it is then possible to have the display manager
launch your favorite desktop environment. Just look for the config
files for your particular display manager to see how it launches a
session.
With KDM and GDM, it is possible to do an auto-login, using any userid
that you want. Check the ltsp contrib page for more info on setting up
kdm for auto-login.
I read that bit. As far as I can tell, ive got gdm-binary running and
startx is matched up to gnome, but when start the startx screen I get
the infamouse grey screen with an X mouse on it. Unless gdm-binary is
the wrong thing to have running, it should be working (I've actually got
it running twice).
Also, anyone know whay this is? When I start the ltsp session I've got
3 screens. One running shell, one running telnet (which I can't connect
with because telnet may be shut down on my machine . . . let me check .
. . it is. is there a way to use ssh rather than telnet?) and one which
runs X. The X screen seems to refresh itself regularly, and for some
reason if I'm on another screen when it does that (the shell screen, for
example) it will automatically shift me back to the X screen (which is a
bad idea).
Anyone?
