There seems to be issues with Fedora Core 4, maybe it's better to wait for it to stabilize in a while. If I were you though, I'll investigate Debian as well. The new stable version (Sarge) is pretty good and (um) stable. Unlike FC, which release cycle is pretty short (6 months?), you should be able to run Debian for a long time without worrying about upgrading.
