According to the note for dvipost, this program is needed by LyX. But there is some resistance ... 1.) The mentioned url http://freshmeat.net/projects/dvipost/ no longer exists. 2.) If, for some accidental circumstance (as in my case) this program exists, and the symbolic link pplatex->dvipost works, then lyx is using pplatex as converter latex->dvi. This is in most cases no problem, but some exports are no longer working.
I propose to remove the check for pplatex in configure.py and correct the note
in LaTeXConfig.lyx. From my POV, dvipost is at least obsolete.
