Imagine I'd like to use unicode in general, but have a document for a journal that does not accept unicode-encoded files. Or I have a document that uses a package that does not work with unicode. Vice versa: I want to use latin-1 generally, but need to write a document that uses characters for which I need unicode. Or: I'm publishing in English and Hebrew (onl hypothetically). For hebrew documtns, unicode is better, for English documents, I'd like to use good old latin1. I think there are lots of cases where the decision "unicode or not" depends on the actual job or document, respectively. Jürgen
