Hi,

I've never used PDL (Perl Data Language, designed to bring fast &
compact data manipulation [particularly matrix operations] to Perl),
mainly because it's such a bear to install. But I keep wanting to try.

I just tried downloading and installing the latest PDL, and learned that
I need to have a Fortran compiler like f77 or g77 installed. Urgh, does
anyone know how to install such a beast, or even if such a thing is
possible? The GNU docs & site are as helpful as they ever are, so I
haven't been able to figure much out.

I'll take this over to the PDL lists if nobody here can help, but I
didn't want to cross-post right off the bat.
