Adding attributes to elements of vectors or columns of a matrix is a reasonable
thing to do, especially where you need to provide a decoding rule for ordinal
values.
But it really should be a separate JIRA, possibly as a follow-on to this one.
The topic here is naming rows and columns for access by name and (hopefully)
joining during multiplication.
