JSON is fine for In and Out of Mahout, IMO, but for internal use (i.e. between
mappers/reducers, etc.) a binary protocol makes more sense. For now, we can
likely live with JSON, but as others have stated, Thrift, PB, Avro, et. al. are
really designed for this kind of thing
At any rate, we probably should take this discussion to a separate thread, as
it has nothing to do with the thread subject.
