Remaining problem: the geo database is oracle, so apparently I need the "geos"

The GEOS library is likely only required if you are using PostGIS as the
backend. But, I've never used Oracle so I can't say for sure.
The geodjango page says it's needed for every backend. But that seems a
geodjango-specific thing.
The error I'm getting is:
ImproperlyConfigured: Could not import user-defined GEOMETRY_BACKEND "geos".
Hmm, I would ask about this on IRC at #geodjango or on the geodjango mailing
list as this has nothing to do with Mapnik.
Just asked there and got pointed at the geodjango windows installer. It
does more than I want/need, but it apparently is OK in combination with
custom django setups. In any case, I saw some .dll and .so in one of
the library dirs it installs that will probably make it work.
Well, I didn't install the geos library yet. But I cannot find a windows
installable for that. Either I'm blind or nobody uses oracle+geo stuff on
windows :-)
I recommend postgres.
And I recommend ubuntu on the server :-)
Almost all our clients habitually use oracle as the backend, so we're
stuck with that. And this specific customer mandates windows. We told
'em it would cost them a week of otherwise-productive coding to get it
installed there...
Another customer wants an ubuntu install, so there's hope :-)
